What Each Value Can - and Cannot - Predict

Thickness controls construction but does not prevent tearing. Tensile and break strength describe controlled pulling; field behavior also depends on span, attachment shape, wind, edges, temperature, and operator method. Excessive elongation can increase sag and distort the legend.

For adhesive tape, peel adhesion measures removal force at a defined angle, speed, substrate, and dwell. Initial tack describes early grab; static shear or holding force describes sustained-load resistance. Steel data does not predict every painted, coated, rough, porous, plastic, or low-energy surface.

Compatibility Limits by Tape Construction

Non-adhesive tape may be tied or clipped to posts, rails, cones, frames, or fencing. Small-radius posts, sharp corners, and irregular shapes concentrate stress. It should not restrain cargo, carry weight, or replace required rigid protection.

Test adhesive tape on the actual glass, metal, plastic, painted, coated, rough, or low-energy surface. Contamination, porous concrete, plasticizer migration, and low temperature can reduce wet-out. For fixed floor boundaries, adhesive hazard floor marking tape requires peel, dwell, edge-lifting, and removal checks on the floor.

Qualification Sequence for Representative Samples

Preserving Roll Condition Before Testing

Store rolls dry in original cartons, away from sunlight, heat, and stacking pressure. Temperature, humidity, storage time, transport, vibration, and damaged packaging may cause telescoping, crushed cores, blocking, ink transfer, adhesive flow, or liner distortion.

Condition rolls near application temperature and inspect cartons, edges, unwind, color, print, liner, and adhesive surface. Record relevant settings when batches are compared. Artwork approval, multilingual layout, repeat spacing, roll conversion, and batch consistency should be reviewed with the available printing and converting controls before acceptance values are finalized.
